Every once in a while the beauty world produces a Furby or a Tickle Me Elmo frenzy product. This summer’s shelf-clearer is Prtty Peaushun Skin Tight Body Lotion, developed by Los Angeles-based makeup artist Bethany Karlyn.
A super sheer yet powerful all-over skin makeup with a real radiant glow, it wipes out the self-tanner and home bronzer market. It is that good. It’s natural-looking and, better still, it has all-natural ingredients that make you look and feel tighter, reduce the look of cellulite, cover and actually heal bruises, scrapes and cuts (that would be the arnica in it), hide stretch marks, blend tan lines and discolourations and reduce redness. As an added bonus, its botanicals naturally repel insects for summer porch and dock purposes. Whew.
Yes, at $40 a pop, the Real Housewives of Vancouver singlehandedly wiped out the stock at Kiss and Makeup in Vancouver in less than a day. It has just arrived here in Toronto at a few select purveyors of beauty and natural products. A recent party at Waxon Wax Bar at Summerhill saw a frenzy for it at the Society Global/Lainey Gossip soirée.
The packaging is really cool, basically a lightweight bag the company calls “anti-packaging.” It’s designed to both take up miniscule space in landfills and keep the product safe from sunlight.
As it is a collapsible bag, you can squeeze out every last drop. This is particularly important to me: nothing makes me crazier than trying to get the dregs out of a poorly designed package.
The legs on the package belong to celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson, a devoted client of Karlyn’s.
The list of its fans would make an editor of UsMagazine drool. Gwyneth Paltrow buzzes about this goop on Goop. Anne Hathaway and Cate Blanchett are famously pale goddesses who use the stuff. (Gwyneth raves about how it improves muscle tone; Cate loves it on her face.) They would use plain, light or even medium when they have a bit of a Cabo tan. (I am currently using medium for summer, but love the light through winter; plain is just shine, no colour)
But better still, the product is so sheer that the colour range extends to every skin tone. The dark is what Rihanna uses, and the deep dark works on every richer skintone. (Serena Williams is also a fan.)
The other amazing thing is that there is no transfer to clothes or sheets — though I would recommend you allow a few minutes for drying time if you plan to wear something white.
The formula is PETA-approved, which means it is 100 per cent vegan. It contains 99.7 per cent naturally derived ingredients, 96 per cent of these in raw form. It is fragrance-free with a light scent from the citrus elements in the potion. Highlights from the label include various coconut oils, grapefruit waxes, avocado and jojoba oils, rosemary and calendula as well as the healing/tightening arnica.
If you make one cosmetic splurge this summer, this is it. When you glow this perfectly, you don’t need more than a swipe of lip gloss and a dab of blush.
