TIP TUESDAY: Dealing with the DREADED!

Dealing with the dreaded, unavoidable, annoying and never timely - yes we're talking about ZITS.

Everyone gets them (and if you don't we're CRAZY jealous!) So, how does a makeup artist make a molehill out of mountain and make that pimple disappear (or appear to vanish.) Celebrity makeup artist and PRTTY PEAUSHUN creator Bethany Karlyn shares her tips.

Pimples and blackheads? Don’t pick! Picking leads to scarring. Serious skin problems should be treated by a dermatologist. The doctor can inject a big nasty zit with cortisone to shrink it quickly for those inevitable flare-ups before a big event. For more casual skin problems like blackheads, if they’re shallow enough, a face strip should remove them nicely. In a pinch, put some Elmer's glue over the blackhead and let dry, then peel off and take the blackhead with it. Products with glycolic acid will gently slough off the top layer of skin and help keep blackheads at bay.

If you’ve already picked a pimple and made a scar, any product with hydroquinone will help lighten the spot. Look for the highest percentage or for it to be listed high on the list of ingredients. The higher an ingredient is on the list, the higher the percentage in the formula. Apply with a q-tip to the spot.

Get a head start on a pimple at bed time. The body heals while you sleep. Make sure your face is clean and apply a product with salicylic acid in the highest concentration possible. Salicylic acid is aspirin… works on a headache and works on the head of a zit or a whitehead.

In a pinch, there are several household items that that will chase away that blemish quickly -  try a dab of milk of magnesia, calamine lotion, Neosporin and even honey! Honey is an anti inflammatory and it kills bacteria – perfect for healing a zit. *Remember to use a small round band-aid over the honey unless you want to wake up with sticky face, hair and pillow.*

SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT: Beauty Mart

It's that time of the week again! This Sunday we're featuring, yet again, another amazing and favorite PRTTY PEAUSHUN retailer (but let's be honest, we love all of our PRTTY partners!) So as your enjoying the first day of fall, check out what will be your new beauty go to, we promise. This is Beauty Mart!

Beauty Mart is a trifecta of expertly edited beauty resources - made up of their blog, storefronts (including a vending machine!) and now the online store. Beauty Mart takes pride in the carefully crafted plethora of quality beauty products ranging from over 100 different brands and price points.

But it's more than just all of your beauty needs under one roof, all of the Beauty Mart offerings are backed by experts Millie Kendall, who has founded many beauty brands, and Anna-Marie Solowij, beauty journalist of 20+ years, including 6 years as Beauty Director of British Vogue. Trust that you are in good (perfectly manicured, we assume) hands.

PRTTY PEAUSHUN also is thrilled to meet the expectations of such beauty authorities and is a favorite of Anna-Marie.

Fall into supple skin YEAR-ROUND!

Summer is almost over - ( I know we can't believe it either!) But just because it's almost time to fold up the barely-there fabric that makes up a summer wardrobe doesn't mean it's time to pack up the PRTTY PEAUSHUN!

Longer hemlines, covered limbs and layers are just around the corner and just as the seasons change, so should your beauty regimen. So how does PRTTY PEAUSHUN play into an autumn beauty routine? The answer is PLAIN to see!

PRTTY PEAUSHUN in PLAIN is PRFCT perfect to keep your skin supple while it's in hiding. PLAIN replaces all your body lotion needs and can be used everyday just as you would use any other body moisturizer.

You may ask, "PLAIN - what's the point?" PRTTY PEAUSHUN PLAIN is essentially the base to all of our PRTTY PEAUSHUN shades. It holds ALL the natural ingredients and provides the same amazing benefits as our PRTTY PEAUSHUN shades do but without the mineral glow (read color).

PRTTY PEAUSHUN in PLAIN still

  • lifts
  • tightens
  • firms
  • helps with bruising/sore muscles
  • diminishes the appearance of cellulite and varicose veins
  • adds a silky shine
  • and nourishes your skin with these natural ingredients
It's these great characteristics that also makes PLAIN just as beautiful on exposed skin as it is on hidden skin - see Jessica Paré wearing PLAIN on the red carpet of the Audi and Altuzarra Emmy Kick Off Party.

TIP TUESDAY: Get in line!

With autumn around the corner, the fresh-faced simple makeup of summer turns into an edgier and more dramatic fall makeup look. And what is a sultry post-summer look without eyeliner? Bethany Karlyn, creator of PRTTY PEAUSHUN shares her tips on how to get the perfect liner look.

PREP YOUR PENCILS

If your eye pencils are too soft to sharpen
Pencils can become soft either from the heat or due to the type of pencil – kohl pencils are super soft. If this is the case, toss them in the freezer for about 10 min or drop tip first in ice water and sharpen right away. To re-soften the kohl, hold tip between fingers for a moment or breathe on it. That’ll do the trick.

If your lip or eye pencils are hard and pull at the skin warm them up first by either holding the tip between your fingers to allow the heat of your fingers to warm up and soften the product, or else, just put the tip in your open mouth and breathe on it – same result.
Also, a trick that our Social Media Manager uses is melting just the tip of the pencil against the outside of a hair straightener that's turned on (or is still warm). This is perfect if your pencil has been sitting out without a cap.

PREP YOUR PEEPERS
Oily skin can make eyeliner smudge. Be sure to powder the area first or use powder eyeshadow.

LINE TIME
Liquid liner has the best staying power but is the most difficult to control. Try liquid eyeliner gel applied with a small angle brush. Another easy method is a liquid eyeliner felt tip pen.

For a softer opaque line, use your favorite deep matte eyeshadow and apply with an angle brush dipped in liquid eyeliner sealer, available at professional beauty supplies. In a pinch, instead of the sealer, use Visine.

Tip Tuesday: Nailed it!

Anyone who knows PRTTY PEAUSHUN creator Bethany Karlyn KNOWS that her nails are always on point - typically in a long, perfect shape and painted nude. So for this week's Tip Tuesday, Bethany gives some not-so-known tips for nailing it on your own.

DRY TIME

Underestimate the time it takes for your nails to dry? Fill up a bowl with ice water and dip your nails in. careful not to bump your tips against the cubes, they’ll dent. After a few minutes, take them out and shake them until they’re dry. For extra protection, give them a spritz of quick dry, available in beauty supplies. No quick dry handy? A great substitute is a cooking oil spray, like Pam.

THE PAIN WITH STAINS

Nails yellowing from nail polish?  Look for topcoats with CAB (cellulose acetate butyrate). To remove stains, soak nails in juice of 1 lemon diluted into 1 cup of water. Or dip sponge into white vinegar and rub. Or use teeth whitening strips! They work!

MANI-PEDI MOISTURIZER

Once completing a fabulous manicure or pedicure slather on the PRTTY PEAUSHUN to keep your hands and feet looking youthful. The PP natural oils are also great for keeping nail beds hydrated and preventing hangnails and tears. Also, keep the PP handy for the removal process and avoid over-drying your skin post nail polish remover/acetone use.

Sunday Spotlight: GAIAM

We've been sharing some of our FABULOUS retailers and e-tailers with you every Sunday and this week is no different. We're huge fans of ALL of our PRTTY Partners, but it's no secret that there's a special little place in our PRTTY hearts for the stores and brands that are conscious of the environment and the impact their business can make. PRTTY PEAUSHUN is thrilled that Gaiam falls into this lovely category.

A little history about GAIAM
"Founded in Boulder, Colorado in 1988, Gaiam is a provider of information, goods and services to customers who value the environment, a sustainable economy, healthy lifestyles, alternative healthcare and personal development."

What's in a name?
Gaiam's name comes from the fusion of the words Gaia (mother earth) and I am - we told you they were environmentally aware. But their philosophy extends way beyond these words:

Gaia, mother Earth, was honored on the Isle of Crete in
ancient Greece 5,000 years ago by the Minoan civilization.
This civilization valued education, art, science, recreation,
and the environment and believed that the Earth was
directly connected to its existence and daily life. The
concept of Gaia stems from the ancient philosophy that the
is a living entity. At Gaiam, we believe that all of the Earth's
living matter, air, oceans and land form an interconnected
system that can be seen as a single entity. The word
Gaiam represents planetary awareness, preservation and
support of the interconnectivity of all living things. By
nurturing, protecting and respecting our planet, its natural
resources and its inhabitants, we enrich our own lives and
   those of future generations.

See, how can you NOT be behind a brand like this. And starting tomorrow, in addition to purchasing all your wellness needs and wants, you can purchase your PRTTY PEAUSHUN via the Gaiam website and catalogue.

We think this is the start of a GLOWING PRTTY Partnership.

Tip Tuesday: Eyes on the Prize!

BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER

We wholeheartedly believe this - but maybe, just maybe you aren't always satisfied with the way said eye looks, or you want to change up your look in general. Below are some tips to enhance and tweak one of the most beautiful and unique features on your face.

WIDEN EYES
For close set eyes, widen the eyes by concentrating the deeper shades of shadow and liner on the outsides of the eye. Keep the shades light on the inside of the eye. Give the outside top lash a second coat of mascara to further widen.

CONTRACT EYES
For wide set eyes, bring your eyes together by concentrating the lighter shades of shadow and liner on the outsides of the eye. Keep the shades darker on the inside of the eye.

BRING EYES FORWARD
For deep set eyes, an all over wash of a light shadow will bring the eye forward. Avoid dark shades.

RECEDE EYES
For bulbous eyes a wash of dark shadow over the lid and underneath will make the eye recede. A dark pencil, preferably waterproof, in the inner lid, or waterline, will further close the eye.

PRTTY PEAUSHUN on your PEEPERS
Whether you're trying to "correct" with any of the tips above or brighten in general, remember that PRTTY PEAUSHUN is always great for highlighting. Use it on the brow bone or a dab in the corner of your eyes (avoid getting it in the eyes! It is natural and not harmful, but who is to say it won't sting.)
