A Match made in Beauty Heaven!
Wow, what a brilliant idea! Birchbox and GOOP are partnering! Thanks Refinery29 for thinking of us, read below, we are a favorite of Gwyneth's and would love to be included... some day...
In a why-didn't-we-think-of-that moment, we learned that Birchbox and GOOP — two names we're excited to hear together — were teaming up for a special-edition-curated box for October. Guess what? It's October now! Good news for new subscribers to Birchbox's $10 a month membership: They can now choose to have their first box shipment "Goopified" (yes, that's a word — we may have made it up, but still).
The companies haven't announced what will be in the box, but we'd like to remind them that some of Gwyn's favorite prodcucts, like Butter London polishes, seem like they're just the right size. Also, we're not sure if they are aware that Prtty Peaushun lotions come in squishy bags, perfect for fitting into small spaces. We're just saying.

Are Self Tanners Safe?
We've recently read several articles questioning the safety of self tanners. Mainly the focus is on DHA. Below is an excerpt from the blog No More Dirty Looks. It provides a balanced approach to the topic. The reason it is being posted here is to make clear that Prtty Peaushun is NOT a self tanner and does NOT contain DHA!! Dihydroxyacetone—that’s DHA to you— which is the active ingredient in self-tanners (even clean ones) and spray tans (none of which are clean) “has the potential to cause genetic alterations and DNA damage,” according to a panel of scientists in an investigation done by ABC News.
Now before you run to the bathroom and ditch your Chocolate Sun, let’s take a closer look at what we know so far.
What are the news reports saying?
That DHA has the potential to cause genetic alterations, DNA damage, and cancer.
What’s DHA anyway?
DHA is a sugar that interacts with amino acids in the top layer of your skin to produce pigment called melanoidins; that’s the brownish tanned look these products achieve. DHA can be manufactured synthetically, or it can be derived from natural things, like beet sugar or cane sugar. It was approved by the FDA for topical use in 1977 (and many orange tans ensued!) and is widely accepted as nontoxic when applied to the skin.
So is it toxic?
Some research showed that when it’s applied in the form of a lotion, DHA does not migrate past the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of skin that’s also sometimes called the “dead skin layer.” Which sounds gross, but it’s good news, we thought, for your organs and your blood if you’re applying it in a cream as opposed inhaling it in the form of a spray tan or a spray-on self tanner.
Up until now, there’s been the most concern about spray tans, because the application method means you might inhale the stuff. Even the FDA, which is typically mum about all things cosmetics-related, has a warning on its website about them. Which means that for the love of all things good (and good looking) you should not be getting a spray tan!
Fine. But I’m good to go with a self tanner, right?

Tracy's Take on Cellulite
Celebrity Fitness Trainer Tracy Anderson and her Take on Cellulite: What Really Works....
Skin tone is one of the biggest issues that we as women face. Poor skin tone can negatively affect the self-confidence of any woman – no matter how beautiful. After all, cellulite is what makes us want the lights off in front of our partners; and what drives us to wear Spanx and sarongs over bathing suits in 90 degree weather.
For the fortunate few, cellulite can only be seen when the skin is pinched or while sitting at an unflattering angle. However, for many women, uneven skin tone is often difficult to hide and can be found in the most unexpected places.
The truth is that we don't have to accept cellulite and loose skin as a fact of life. We can get rid of it – and at any age! I have eliminated cellulite on countless clients from all walks of life through hard work, dedication, and an understanding that there is not a miracle pill, cream, or treatment.
Before you can begin to tackle your skin tone issues, you must accept that living an inactive lifestyle is the largest contributor to cellulite. If you are thinking to yourself, “Yeah right! I exercise daily and I still have cellulite!”, then you need a crash course in understanding how the body produces uneven skin tone. We all have fibrous cords that connect our skin and muscles. When we gain weight our fat cells are pushed against these cords. This forces our skin to dimple and our fat to bulge out. As we age, it only gets worse because our skin naturally becomes less elastic.
While your genetics and daily stress can also play a role in causing cellulite, learning to use your muscles properly and performing cardiovascular work to your fullest extent are the keys to eliminating skin tone irregularities, organically. If you are a Tracy Anderson client (either at home or in the studio) you know that my method reengineers your muscular structure through the constant flow of new workout sequences, prescribed specifically for you. These unique sequences are based on targeting the accessory muscles (the small muscle groups). Strengthening the accessory muscles while burning fat through intense cardiovascular work helps to create a tight knit group of small muscles that actually pull in the larger muscle groups and even out your skin tone.
If you follow my program you can achieve a cellulite-free body. However, do not fool yourself into believing that once you have reached your goal you can slack off. Be assured that if you don’t keep up with this program, you will lose your hard earned results. On a personal note, I live happily and consistently in a six-pound weight zone. If I start to creep up to the top of it, I notice little cellulite issues. However, if I am at my average or lower weight, I see not one imperfection.

The War on Cellulite
Let's face it, we all have cellulite....(well most of us anyways) and the war against cellulite is never ending. There's so many "tips" on how to get rid of cellulite but do any of them really work? Can you even get rid of cellulite? Honestly, maybe if you're lucky but most of us are just stuck with it. So why not just make the best of it and accept your body the way it is. Afterall, loving your self and your body is one of the best things a woman can do. The Paraben Free Princess
I just want everyone to check out this blog called "The Paraben Free Princess" ....I seriously just stumbled upon her blog a few minutes ago but I couldn't be happier that I found a unique blog such as this! BET AWARDS 2010
The BET Awards were on this past weekend and of course the lovely and wonderful Queen Latifah was the host. The awards show was declared by CNN Entertainment a "Night of the Comeback on BET Awards" ....read more about it here. But if you missed it, you can catch an encore episode Tuesday, June 29th 7/6c
But sure enough, with every great awards show comes great fashion, makeup, hair and of course, glowing skin. Safe Ingredients = Safe Cosmetics
There's nothing more important than having good health. But did you know that the cosmetics and skincare products you put on your face and body can cause harm in the future? The latest topic is Anti-Parabens and research has even shown that Parabens do cause cancer and are harmful. But its not just parabens that are harmful. Triclosan is another harmful ingredient found in all anti-bacterial soaps and can lower the immune system causing you to be far more susceptible to illness...and when I say illness, I'm not just talking about the common cold....I'm talking about cancer too. Unfortunately, the list goes on and on...and its a long one. It really makes me question what our government is doing to protect US! Obviously not enough....so what should you, the consumer, do when everything is loaded with harmful ingredients?
Start small! Try to make small changes daily, weekly, or monthly. Any small change helps. Check out the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Database. There you can type in the brand or name of your favorite beauty product and the database will rate the product on a scale of 1-10....also telling you how safe or how hazardous the product is.
